What is “Shanghai List”?

Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) is published by an independent organization Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. ARWU uses objective indicators to rank world universities, such as the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, the number of highly cited researchers, the number of articles published in most relevant journals, etc. More than 1200 universities are ranked by ARWU every year and the best 500 are published in the list of best universities in the world.
